Eternal Fragment imagines the remains of an object that never existed.
Conceived as a series of sculptural urban elements, the work draws on the visual language of ruins while resisting any fixed point in time. What seems broken was never whole. Simultaneously ancient and speculative, Eternal Fragment proposes a relic without chronology.
Presented as a large-scale installation in the piazza of Teatro Animosi, in the heart of Carrara, the work acquires a particular resonance. Produced in the shadow of the mountains that have supplied marble to artists, architects and craftsmen for more than two thousand years, it emerges directly from the landscape that made it possible.
Carrara is more than the source of a material. It is a territory shaped by extraction, knowledge and craft—a place where stone remains inseparable from culture. Conceived and realised in close proximity to the quarries themselves, Eternal Fragment stands as a tribute to the city and the enduring legacy of its marble.
